APM Chartered Project Professional Program Outline

At Training ByteSize, we hold out candidates to high standards to maintain the reputation of ChPP status holders as leaders in the project management profession. To ensure candidates are as prepared as possible, there are 4 required steps for the online course and 6 steps for the extended course.

Pre-qualification takes candidates through a personal assessment of their current project portfolio, skills and knowledge to determine their suitability for the APM Chartered Project Professional Certification. Click here to access the questionnaire.

Online Preparation is required of all candidates, where they will receive online guidance on what will be required of them, how to make the most of their experience and how to successfully create the portfolio for their application.

APM ChPP Workbooks are provided to guide you step-by-step through the application process, including providing tips, an example of an ideal project management portfolio, and advice on creating and maintaining their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) log.

The One-Day Public Workshop is for extended course candidates only, giving them exclusive insight into the ChPP certification assessment process and supervision by an APM Chartered Assessor in drafting their written assessment. 

Interview Preparation Guidance is provided to all candidates through the use of a detailed video detailing how to prepare for their interview, anticipate questions, phrasing responses and more.

Optional Portfolio Reviews are also available to extended course candidates, giving them a chance to receive feedback on their proposed portfolio from a qualified APM Assessor.

AMP Chartered Project  Professional Course Length 

Candidates can expect to complete the APM Chartered Project Professional Program within 3 to 6 months. While the online certification program can be completed within 3 months for more confident applicants, the extended program option allows candidates greater access to support and guidance to give them the best chance of attaining their ChPP certification.

ChPP Course Types 

The online APM Chartered Project Professional Certification with Training ByteSize allows candidates to work around their schedule and at their own pace. With two course types available, candidates can take the route they feel most comfortable with on their journey to attaining their ChPP status.

APM ChPP assessment fees are to be paid directly to the APM and are not included in the program price. 

Online ChPP Course ($6,495 + GST)

The online ChPP course provides access to the assessment with self-guided support options, including:

• Online videos and a workbook for guidance on how to best structure and present an application to the APM.
• Tips for creating a competence statement.
• A sample portfolio to inspire your own.
• Email support with a ChPP-experienced assessor for any clarifications.

Who can attain a APM ChPP status?

Only experienced project managers with at least 5 years’ experience working in a project delivery environment are eligible candidates for the APM Chartered Project Professional status. They must demonstrate a high-level of experience with advanced knowledge in a range of project management techniques, and how they can be applied to different situations to deliver successful results.

Candidates are eligible for assessment if they have taken on any role associated with the delivery of complex portfolios, programs or projects, with different assessment routes depending on if there is recognition of prior achievement.

How are candidates assessed for APM Chartered Project Professional status?

There are three routes of assessment when aiming to attain an APM Chartered Project Professional status. Route 1 and 2 recognise both alternative assessments and/or professional qualifications, giving candidates a subset of the Route 3 assessment detailed below.

The Route 3 assessment does not recognise prior achievement or learning, so is the most intensive of the three routes. All Route 3 candidates must complete the follow three steps to attain their ChPP status:

• Written portfolio, requiring candidates to submit a portfolio clearly demonstrating their capabilities and knowledge through 10 core and 2 elective competences, with at least 4 indicators of professional practice for each proposed competence.
• A Continuing Professional Development (CPD) log, which outlines at least 35 hours of select CPD in the last twelve months, with forward-planning for the coming 12 months.
• A Professional Interview, in which candidates undergo a professional review with two accredited APM ChPP assessors virtually over 2 hours to validate practical experience of the 6 competence areas outlined in the written submission. Candidates will also be interviewed for their broader technical knowledge for the same four competences to assess the degree of their skills.
